I liked making graphic organizers in powerpoint. I inserted several into a presentation for a lecture in Environmental science. I created hyperlinks from each object in my flowchart for that topic. I also liked looking for pictures and graphics. I never seem to have enough time to do that during the school year. I really don’t have any questions…they have all been answered as we’ve gone through the activities.
Play time has really been an important component in the class. I won’t use it if I haven’t had the time to figure it all out.
I enjoyed making the review game for a book that I read. I got started on it and would enjoy being able to finish it to give to my kids after reading the book this next year in class. I plan on having the kids read the book and write over it, then at the end of reading it, we would do the review game going over the book and talk about the book as we go through it.
The most important thing I learned today was how to make a review slide show on powerpoint. I’m excited about experimenting with this tool and using it to create review games for my 4th, 5th, & 6th graders. Each of these grades study a time period in music and composers from each of those eras. A powerpoint review game would be fun and helpful in preparing those students for the final unit tests over the time periods and composers. At this time I don’t have any questions, but I sure I will as soon as I delve more deeply into the world of powerpoint review slide shows and try to get all fancy-shmancy with it.
I don’t really have any questions, but I do have some new ideas about how to use this in my classroom. Saving slides as JPEGs will be helpful in posting to my website, as many of my students don’t have PowerPoint at home. I have also tweaked some of my existing presentations to include more images and quizzes. I second Roxanne’s thought about time to work/play with the projects. It amazes me a little bit that we all seem to be working so diligently. I also like being in a class with colleagues to bounce around ideas that we can remind each other about once school starts.
I have the kids use PowerPoint to make slideshows and I use PowerPoint to make slideshows but I hadn’t used PPT to make much else. I enjoyed having some time to make my own review games like Jeopardy (even though I’ll probably still use the better version that’s available online).
I also liked the time to create my own screenshots of writing prompts. I teach one Keyboarding class for 6th graders and I’m always looking for different ways to get them to practice their typing. I think I’ll use some writing prompts and maybe even let them use PPT to do it – it’s still writing!
I don’t really have questions about this first day. It went pretty smoothly.
One thing I learned of was how I could use cartoons for a writing prompt. Not just give them a blank cartoon to fill in but also give them a real one and have them reflect his or her thoughts about it. I do plan to use this technique in my freshmen keyboarding class. I may try to incorporate it also in my computer apps class in that they actually design a cartoon and write the script for it as well.
I am excited to use the graphic organizer in Office 07 as soon as I can get my hands on it. Before, I wasn’t too interested in them but now they are easier to use (I don’t have Inspiration), I think I will use them more frequently to visualize information and for my students to use. I can implement this concept in all of my classes so back to the drawig board literally! ha
I would like specific info on the color poster printer that you are familiar with (or Stacy). I would like to try to weedle one for Stanberry if I can. Cost, vendor, style, etc.
No questions. I am taking this time to organize my journal prompts. I had the idea from Sheryl (my brilliant older sister). I am going to put images with my prompts. I am hoping that my students will be more inspired to write more. I also have problems with students’ responses being somewhat “flat”. The students don’t write anything worth reading. So I am trying to jump start their minds.
Creating a game in the PowerPoint program was one thing I learned today. I will be using this new strategy and incorporating it into my Career units with my 7th and 8th graders. After the students research their career, this could be one option they could use to present to their peers.
I was glad we went over the review game with power point, I have done this before, but I had forgotten all of the step, I did learn that I can’t draw in my images and hyperlink them, I have to save it as a jpeg and then insert it, kind of a pain but oh well, I really have no questions at this point. Sheryl gave me a great idea for using ppt to go over my syllabus I’m very excited about working on that and having it ready for the first day of school and JH orientation, I’m so excited!!
I learned that this process is not so scarry! I will definitely use power point in every class, and encourage my students to express their creativity in more ways. It is wonderful to see the many uses, and to listen to the other teachers, and how they have incorporated this technology into their classes everyday. Thank you.
I like getting new tools to use in class. I have used basic PowerPoint often. But I have learned new things like how to duplicate a slide for a game. I want to work on making a review for one of my chapters this afternoon. I like having time to work on projects.
